The Story of Convini

The year was 1995 and a creative idea was born in an ice cream truck. It was all about food at work....

How it started...

How it started...

The year was 1995 and Convini’s founder, Anders Enqvist, had been working at Hemglass for many years.

The ice cream trucks mostly rolled in the evenings, and Anders started thinking about how they could be used more during the daytime. Why not sell ice cream to companies and offices? Soon, requests for food also began to come in. Bingo! After 23 years at Hemglass, Anders left his job to fully pursue his idea of providing workplaces with food and energy. He was joined by colleague Mårten Weman. The company started in Stockholm and the name was obvious – Mat på Jobbet (Food at Work).

Continuous improvements

Mat på Jobbet grew quickly.

The offering to customers was constantly being developed, and the stores, assortment, technology, and service were improved. Every detail could always get better! The vision “Together we develop a fantastic company” has been a guiding principle ever since.

Customers came in, and more employees joined. In 1997, we also began offering coffee solutions to our corporate customers. A few years later, Mat på Jobbet expanded to Gothenburg and Malmö.

The logo and name change

The logo has gone through several changes over the years. One important milestone in our history was when we changed our name from Mat på Jobbet to Convini. The new name allowed for a broader offering and could also work internationally.

A family business

Entrepreneur Anders started the company from scratch, and today the number of employees is approaching 300. Now, the second generation of the Enqvist family – Emelie, Nicklas and Jonas – are all active in the business. The latter two are part of the management team.

“To have the privilege of working together with my children around a shared idea is something very special and truly wonderful,” says Anders. “Being a family business naturally creates long-term thinking and personal responsibility for the company. I believe that is good for the business and provides continuity and security for our employees,” he continues.

A short chat with Anders

Tell us, how did it all begin?

“I saw great potential in the idea of ‘food at work’. I was inspired by the success we had at Hemglass during the 70s and 80s. The entrepreneur in me wanted to start something new from scratch and use all the experience I had gathered. Already from the start, we had the thought that if the business idea worked, we would allow it to grow big and reach its full potential. And that’s still the path we are on — we’re definitely not done yet. We’re only at the beginning!

Creating jobs and getting to work together with many people, customers and consumers has always been the driving force for me. That’s where our vision comes from; ‘Together we develop a fantastic company.’”

What has been your driving force throughout the journey?

“Since childhood, I found joy in trying to do good for others. It feels good when you do something meaningful and receive appreciation. Helping people at work to feel good and perform better — which today is our mission — has always felt completely right.

With smart colleagues, demanding customers and a bit of luck, things have kept moving. Working together with engaged people who are passionate about development has truly created joy and a sense of purpose in life. It has been, and still is, fantastic fun!” says Anders.
